and more.

In 2009, the Newport Visual Arts Center (VAC) reopened its darkroom for workshops after five years as a broom closet.  It is great resource in a world where  public darkrooms are rapidly disappearing.  Located in the historic Nye Beach area, the Newport VAC itself couldn't be in a more beautiful location.  The main meeting room looks out at the ocean in three directions.  Within a few block area are art galleries and gift stores, bakeries and bistros, bookstores and clothing stores, the Newport Performing Arts Center, and of course, the beach. The Newport Photography Workshops is an informal association of photographers, all experienced instructors.   We are in the beginning stages of growing a comprehensive photographic education program.  Although a primary focus of the workshops is traditional/historical printing processes, digital techniques will be brought to every class as appropriate, and there will be 'capture' classes for film and digital cameras.

Kurt Norlin will be teaching a class in Pinhole Photography on July 10. For more information, please go here

In September, Rich Bergeman will teach 'Exposing and Composing'.  No one will want to miss this opportunity to fine-tune their ability to get great images into their camera.

A workshop designed for all those photographers who love making images but never paused to learn how fstops, shutter speeds, ISOs, and the like to make their pictures even better.

In the morning we’ll demystify how to control depth of field, how to get good pictures in low light, how to use shutter speeds to show motion, how resolution and ISOs affect image sharpness, and other basics of photographic exposure. Once the complex is made simple, we’ll move on to examine traditional and novel approaches to composition and seeing, and take an afternoon walk-about to shoot picturesque Newport and environs. Both film and digital photographers are welcome.
